The residents of the Blue Mountains region worked tirelessly to  build their own shelter and purchase the shops in Springwood and Katoomba to raise funds for their animal shelter.

However as the group was not a legal entity it operted under the auspices of  the chairty RSPCA NSW.

The CEO Steve Coleman has mandated that shelters are now not the way to go and prefers all animal to be transported to Yagoona.

  • Save Our Blue Mountains RSPCA Shelter This is the premises that the Blue Mountains Branch purchased for $135,000 in 1988, two shops under one Title. We worked so hard to pay off the mortgages & we worked so hard to turn the fish shop into a shop we could use. This is just so unfair.

THE FUTURE OF OUR SHELTER: If CEO Coleman is fair dinkum about keeping our shelter open he needs to prove it to this community because we have lost our trust in him & in the Board of RSPCA NSW. It’s no use telling us that because he’s changed his mind we have to start donating money & voluntary labour. It’s not about what we need to do. It’s what he needs to do to convince us that this is not just a delay to lull us all into a false sense of security and that we aren’t going to wake up one morning to find our shelter sold.To prove that this is not a delay in the closure the BMCC impounding contract needs to be re-instated.

The list of Branch members must be made available to the Branch Secretary so that a quarterly Newsletter can once again be sent out to keep members involved & aware of events, the only contact members currently have is from RSPCA NSW asking for donations, not good enough.

Boarding of Dogs & Cats must be resumed, it not only raises funds but it’s great for staff morale to see animals who found homes coming back for a holiday.

Shelter trading hours should not be cut back, the animals should not be left alone for longer periods of time.

Donations given to or raised by the Branch should be kept in the Branch bank account for the maintenance of the shelter. (Funds generated by the shelter from the adoption or boarding of animals will continue to be sent to RSPCA NSW)

RSPCA NSW must remember that they rejected the request for the Shelter management to be returned to the Branch at no cost to RSPCA NSW but made the choice to manage & finance our shelter themselves..

Save Our Blue Mountains RSPCA Shelter You wouldn’t get the truth out of CEO Coleman. As I have said many times this threatened closure was not about the cost of financing the shelter, how could anyone think it was when our request was rejected to have the management of the shelter returned to the Branch, at no cost to RSPCA NSW. Now Coleman has decided that it’ll go back to business as usual with RSPCA NSW financing the shelter, so suddenly they can once again afford it, but without the $170,000 pound Agreement with BMCC & without the funds raised by boarding. Does that make sense to anyone? Oh yes, he’s intends to dismiss most of the staff & replace them with volunteers & he is asking that Blue Mountain residents forget all this and send their cash to him & he does say that he’s thinking of cutting back the shelter hours (leaving the animals on their own for longer periods of time). We need a solid Branch Committee to look after our shelter interests. Any members out there brave enough to give it a go?please message me if you’re willing.
