The CEO of the NSW RSPCA has taken a well respected organisation into being a very questionable organisation.
The decision to close Katoomba Shelter has unleashed the furious indignation from the passionate supporters and volunteers at the shelter.
This news gives a further disturbing insight into the leadership of RSPCA NSW CEO Steven Coleman: The RSPCA NSW Yagoona shelter uses a ‘Behaviour Assessment’ test to determine which dogs are to be offered for re-homing. In 2013 these Behaviour Assessments were adapted to include a ‘Separation Anxiety Test’ which every assessable dog has to undergo.
Each dog is put into a room alone for 5 minutes & is monitored by a surveillance camera, If the dog whines or scratches at the door during their 5 minute surveillence they are deemed to have separation anxiety, not suitable for re-homing, and are euthanased.
For the month ending 13 April 2014 a total of 56 surrenderd dogs underwent the ‘Separation Anxiety Test’, only 4 survived it. 52 were euthanased.
Many staff have resigned from Yagoona shelter due to the massive increase in euthanasiaDespite pressure from RSPCA NSW & the ‘gift’ of a surveillence camera from them, this Behaviour Anxiety test HAS NOT been implemented at our Blue Mountains shelter
We retain the highest re-homing statistic of any RSPCA shelter in NSW.

I would say that is why Steve Coleman is trying to take the shelter away! You guys are daring to question his mandate to destroy animals. Take this to the press-Current Affairs etc. When are they going to get rid of Steve Coleman? He hates animals-the statistics prove it. My heart goes out to shelter staff who work so hard. I can imagine how hard it is for them to see countless animals being killed.
Why is the RSPCA National CEO so quiet about the misconduct of Steve Coleman? The cameras are needed on those who run the tests! Yet again NSW RSPCA has the highest kill rate. What else goes on? I believe that some Vet’s also hold dogs for blood supply to Vet hospitals etc. Is this happening at RSPCA NSW? We need inspectors to go and inspect what goes on in the RSPCA!
Have a look at Utube as the so called Behaviour Test has been leaked. What a pity we do not have behaviour tests for the RSPCA Hierarchy!
I hope that the people in the Blue Mountains will create their own shelter. You certainly would save more animals!!
